Ball & Doggett shows new Envirocore at virtual show

Ball & Doggett is using its stand at the Visual Connections’ Virtual Trade Show to showcase its range including one of its latest products – the sturdy and fully recyclable Envirocore Board which can be used to make furniture, point of sale displays and exhibition structures.

The board is manufactured in NSW with Ball & Doggett its exclusive distributor.

The board is made with two outfacing sheets with an inner hexagonal core which forms a rigid panel. It comes in two finishes – kraft or white – and in two thicknesses: 10mm or 20mm. The board can also be manufactured to a custom size and thickness upon request.

Ball & Doggett national manager for display and visual, Leigh Hooper, said when the coronavirus hit, it was clear the company was going to have to find some creative ways to keep the wheels turning.

One of those creative opportunities was supplying the Envirocore board to Benn Murphy at Clarke Murphy Print to create the successful Build-A-Desk work from home range of solutions.

Hooper said the cost of Envirocore is what sets it apart from others in the market.

Another feature is that it is produced in Australia, meaning supply won’t be effected by production and freight disruptions as has been the case since the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe.

“The key feature of this product is its very economical price point,” Hooper told Sprinter.

“A lot of the projects on these types of boards in the past have potentially fallen through because they become too expensive to manufacture, but we feel Envirocore Board is at the right price point to make sure a lot of these projects actually happen.

“It’s got a great story behind it in terms of the local manufacturing. The options in terms of applications is quite amazing, point of sale displays, furniture as we saw through Build-A-Desk, chairs, other displays for home and the exhibitions and events market as well.

“Once the exhibition and events market return we really do see a strong future for this particularly board.

Hooper said the project to develop Envirocore began 12 months ago when Ball & Doggett began working with a NSW manufacturer who was interested in supplying the print sector.

“The company primarily specialises in the building and construction industry but we came across them 12 months ago now. They really wanted to get into the print industry and into the display and events sector,” Hooper said.

“They saw us and were impressed with our reach into the market. We are a national company and we also have some export opportunities through our Ovol ownership and some of our other businesses throughout Europe, the US and Asia are also looking at importing this board. New Zealand are already importing it.

“It’s just a great Australian story.”

Hooper said the coronavirus pandemic had really hurt paper sales in the recent months, but these drops in sales had been offset greatly by the dramatic rise in the sale of self adhesive vinyls and packaging supplies.

He also said having the opportunity to show Ball & Doggett’s range to customers via the Virtual Trade Show was vital as company policy at this point is still ruling out face-to-face customer meetings until such time as government regulations change.

“I like the fact Visual Connections has thought outside the box with it,” Hooper said.

“What it does is it promotes some of the innovations that we are talking about but are not able to necessarily promote to every customer on our customer list due the coronavirus limits. I think these trade events are a great initiative.”
