Bright buys Horizon PUR

Bright Print Group (Bright) has purchased a Horizon BQ-470 for PUR binding from supplier Currie Group, adding to its in-house capabilities.

The company acquired Oxford Communications in July, which Debbie Burgess, joint managing director, Bright Print Group, says is heavily involved in bookmaking. Bringing perfect binding inhouse with the BQ-470 is seeing the machine running 12 hours a day.

Burgess says, “It was a service that we wanted to bring in-house to control costs and turnaround times. We have seen more and more short run publication work and thought it was an opportunity to do it ourselves and not rely on third party suppliers.

“We had a PUR binder in the past, and did not replace the equipment when it died. So this is the first time we have had the capability in a few years, it was the only thing we could not do in house.

“We are happy with the decision, it has made us more competitive and responsive. Turnaround times are getting shorter, so it enables us to be able to provide product to the clients a lot more efficiently. The Horizon binder is performing consistently across long days which is pleasing. The investment in the binder has been more than justified.

“Things are going well. We have seen an upturn in the industry and in sales so we are quietly confident of the future. We also have extensive wide-format capabilities now, depending on the requirements, includes fabrication and installation services. We can print on board, plastics, banner material, canvas, glass and wood.”

“The Oxford acquisition is proving very successful with full integration of staff, clients and equipment now complete”.

Bernie Robinson, managing director, Currie Group says, “Any printer would benefit from investing in a BQ-470, our premium binder, it is about having the work to justify it. It is a four-clamp perfect binder, with variable booksize, that automatically adjusts, making it a versatile product.

“This is the first machine we have supplied for Bright, and are excited for the new relationship.”

The Sydney and Newcastle based printer has previously acquired five other companies, and moved into wide-format in 2015.
