Canon grows a green thumb

Canon Australia swapped toner and ink for soil and water and over the weekend after it gave 800 of its employees across the country the opportunity to plant a tree for this year’s National Tree Day.

Hosted in partnership with Ryde Council in Sydney and Planet Ark, the supplier provided hundreds of employees with native seedlings so they could go home and plant a tree in their own backyard or local area.

Managing director for Canon Australia Yusuke Mizoguchi kicked off the planting for Tree Day initiative at the planting location, Wilga Reserve in Macquarie Park alongside a number of Canon staff.

“Giving a helping hand to the local community is at the heart of Canon’s philosophy, Kyosei – living and working together for the common good,” says Mizoguchi.

“We believe it is important to unite as a local community, coming together as a team outside of the office to make a positive impact to our environment.”

In addition Canon also donated 16 PowerShot cameras valued at $300 each to environmental foundation Planet Ark to present to winning school and site coordinators in all states and territories.

The company also donated $5,000 to Planet Ark in order to further support its sustainability initiatives.

This year’s National Tree Day took place on Sunday July 31, with some 1.1 million native trees, shrubs and edibles planted across Australia.
