Caxton Web secures “must-have” FSC and PEFC certificates

The Sydney-based web printer began the accreditation process with preparatory work in September, followed by a pre-audit in October.

Accreditation body SGS did the final audit in December, with both FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) approved in January.

Shannon (pictured) told ProPrint: “For us to be credible supplier in the market, they are definitely must-haves.”

He pointed out that while FSC had broader market recognition, PEFC papers were more common in the heatset web market in which Caxton operates.

“It is unusual to see FSC web grade papers, whereas in sheetfed, FSC is probably the more dominant chain-of-custody available”

Shannon said that both programmes had to same aim – “to provide assurance to the customers that the raw material, the fibre, comes from sustainable forests”.

Caxton Web, based in the western suburb of Huntingwood, is owned by former Blue Star chief executive Geoff Selig.
