CMYKhub expands into Queensland with new Brisbane site

The trade printer has been hosting a series of open nights to welcome the local industry to its new factory, based in ‘Printers’ Alley’ in the suburb of Geebung.

The factory’s flagship machine is a new UV A1 five-colour plus coater Ryobi press, which it signed for at PrintEx11. It is CMYKhub’s fourth A1 press, and the sixth with inline coating.

The machine will drive CMYKhub’s new ‘Crystal Varnish’ offering, which is a spot UV and pearl effect, sold “without the normal spot UV price tag”.

CMYKhub founder Clive Denholm told ProPrint: “We believe this will allow our customers to gain some margin in a very price-driven market.”

He added that the “Queensland hub is primarily for the Queensland market, however, some UV products will be offered nationally”.

“We only have a small base of customers currently in Queensland. I feel most businesses prefer to buy locally for speed of delivery – that is the very reason we established the Queensland hub. We are going to have to work hard to attract new customers but we are prepared to do that.

“With the UV press, printing comes off the press dry, which assists us to turn work around faster. To be able to print on uncoated paper with full ink coverage and cut it same day is a great advantage,” he added.

Denholm said he was “personally driving the start-up phase of the business”, while long-term it will be led by state manager Stangeland (pictured), who had previously worked with Denholm at Worldwide Online.

Stangeland was last reported to have picked up the option to launch Printing.com in Australia after the UK franchise group’s failed bid to buy Worldwide Online out of administration, though it now looks unlikely Printing.com will arrive on these shores.

CMYKhub will go head to head with a number of other trade printers already servicing the Queensland market, including Gold Coast-based IBS as well as Sunshine Coast-based firms Queensland Trade Printing and LEP Colour Printers, which recently moved to a larger site.
