CMYKhub picks up second HP Indigo in a year

CMYKhub has installed an HP Indigo 7600 digital press just a year after installing an Indigo 5600.

The latest purchase boosts the company's digital capacity, said Trent Nankervis, managing director of CMYKhub Melbourne, where both digital presses are running.

"We installed the Indigo 7600 in September. It was volume we were really looking for," he said.

"We were happy with the 5600's print quality, and it was a good fit for our business, but we found that we were starting to get new volumes and needed to add extra capacity. Since we're confident in digital printing now – we essentially just put our toe in the water with the first one – we decided to get the bigger machine with double the capacity."

CMYKhub spent over a million dollars on its Indigo 5600 digital line late last year, which included a HP Indigo 5600, Horizon PUR binder and a Horizon 5500 StitchLiner.

Nankervis started researching back at Drupa 2012; another machine was considered, but the Indigo's many benefits won out, said Nankervis.

"We can use the same RIP, we can use a single cooling system and have a back-up with it, and have a central computer to send files.

"Our operator was already very good on the Indigo, so it is easier for him to manage two Indigo machines. It was easier to stick with Indigo, and we've been very happy with the 5600," he said.

"We'll now have more capacity, and will get more efficiencies with one operator."

Nankervis said the timing of the Indigo 7600 was perfect.

"We've been very busy through the September period with reporting season, and both the machines were completely full for September," he said.

Longer-run work will be handled by the Indigo 7600, said Nankervis, while the Indigo 5600 will be used largely for specialised jobs.

"The 7600 is a higher-volume machine. We'll be doing four-colour impressions in higher volumes with it. It does things like a spot clear varnish, but our 5600 is fully loaded with options, so we'll use it for the more unusual work, with the One Shot printing feature on the 5600."
