CMYKhub says free webstore service could save customers $100k

Founder Clive Denholm, who provided ProPrint with a demonstration of the new web-to-print service, said a similar system would cost printers more than $100,000 to build as well as $500 in monthly hosting fees.

"Off-the-shelf solutions are hard to integrate and expensive for small businesses. Many of our clients have spent $40,000 to $50,000 to get a half-finished solution that is expensive to maintain," he said.

The webstore comes with a payment gateway and currently features more than 4,000 price points, said Denholm. There are expected to be more than 10,000 in six months, he added.

CMYKhub resellers set their own prices. They can also add a set margin to CMYKhub's trade price, so that their own prices automatically change with CMYKhub's, said Denholm.

The webstore will initially be limited to CMYKhub products, but the plan is to bring other trade suppliers on board to extend the product range, he said.

Denholm said CMYKhub would launch the internally developed webstore at PacPrint and also provide one-on-one demos. He said printers who came to the stand with their logo on a USB stick could have a personalised website within five minutes.

However, he told ProPrint that it would be a mistake to regard web-to-print as a magic bullet. He said it would help printers win online business, but that their success would still depend on strong local sales and marketing.

CMYKhub already has an online print management tool to handle re-ordering. OPM, which was launched in late 2012, is a portal designed to cut the hassle out of small, regular jobs, such as business cards, corporate stationery and leaflets.
