CMYKhub’s new service turns printers into online print managers

The trade supplier has launched OPM, an online system that CMYKhub founder Clive Denholm said would allow its customers to "remain competitive and relevant".

The portal, which is branded as if it was the print reseller's own website, aims to cut the hassle out of small, regular jobs, such as business cards, corporate stationery and leaflets.

Print resellers can upload Adobe InDesign files to OPM, which are then converted to online templates.

The system was built in-house by CMYKhub's development team of seven IT staff, using its proprietary software alongside Adobe InDesign Server to render the PDFs.

CMYKhub founder Clive Denholm said there are no ongoing monthly or transactional fees, other than a nominal, one-off set-up fee to prepare each template.

"This new software will have a massive impact on the cost of doing small transaction printing. We estimated the average cost of processing a business card order at around $30 including artwork prep time – OPM can eliminate that cost."

Denholm said OPM would allow small printers to retain customers as they would be able to compete against the low prices of Vistaprint, as well as those trade printers that had the advantage of sophisticated automated ordering but also sold direct to printers' end customers.

"As print continues to move online, the cost to process a transaction is going to be a critical factor in the reseller’s ability to stay competitive; normally smaller businesses get left behind. Having some form of centralised manufacturing is only part of the solution. We want to work alongside our reseller network to provide complete solutions that allow them to be successful in the marketplace, online or offline," added Denholm.

The portal should also help drive volumes for CMYKhub, which will print jobs ordered through OPM at one of its four production hubs throughout the country.
