Colorpak sells Foilmasters

Colorpak has spun off its trade embellishing business Foilmasters as it looks to focus on its core carton packaging operations.

Long-time Foilmasters general manager Matt Murcott has bought the trade client list and most of the kit to form Matte Gold as an independent embellishment company.

Colorpak chief executive Alex Commins says: “Given the changing nature of the industry, and the state of the economy in general, we have taken the difficult decision to reduce Foilmasters service offering to the embellishment needs to solely our internal carton customers.”

“Matt has proved to be a reliable, honest, hardworking executive with a lifetime of experience in the industry, starting out from when he was a young tradesman.”

Murcott says the trade embellishing business had been slowing down every year and selling it off means it can focus on its main customers and be more efficient.

“The key to this divestment was for Colorpak to increase their focus to detail on their own internal necessities, servicing its packaging customers 100 per cent with no interruptions from outside work requirements, ensuring they continue to be a strong and efficient ‘one stop shop’,” he says.

Matte Gold will offer trade embellishment, security foilstamping, embossing and formecutting up to half sheet size requirements, security and general foil application advice, and design services.

It also caters direct to the public for events, social, wedding, and stationery products.

Colorpak will retain the Foilmasters brand for embellishing work for its own packaging customers, using Bobst 40inch machinery and Autobond Film Lamination equipment.

Foilmasters was Colorpak’s first acquisition back in 1997 and was being run out of the main factory in Braeside, Victoria.

Murcott started as a foilstamping apprentice with his father at age 17 and joined Foilmasters in 2007 before becoming general manager the year after.
