The work was printed on Momento's HP Indigo 7500 using high-end "flexbind hinged paper" from US company Holmberg.

Momento director Geoff Hunt said the win was "completely unexpected" and "a real thrill".

He said the win proved the model of allowing professional photographers to order their work on-demand.

"It is good support for our model of allowing professional photographers to self-publish and deliver a high-quality product. They don’t need to go offshore and buy long runs."

The book, published by Sam Harris Photography, also took category seven, 'Sheetfed Limited edition book, no price limit', another category typically dominated by offset-printed books.

Some of the local printers ProPrint spoke to at the ceremony were also heartened to see the majority of the awards go to book produced by Australian companies.

Five awards went to offshore printers, with three gongs to Hong Kong-based 1010 Printing.

Momento Pro was the night's biggest winner, with the two top awards and one category award for Postcards from Home, as well as the award for best four-colour digital job for Surf Nation.

A total of 11 of the 16 awards went to Australian companies, including three to Griffin Press, two to BPA Books and one to SOS Print & Media.
