Domino moves into press manufacture with N600i

Domino previously produced inkjet heads and inline systems but the company’s N600i, which is based on the N600 prototype shown at Ipex 2010, is a full-colour standalone machine on show at Labelexpo in Brussels in September. The machine will appear alongside the K600i single colour print bar.

Philip Easton, director of Domino’s digital printing business, said: “The designs of both the K600i and N600i reflect a deep and long established understanding of inkjet technology that spans over 30 years.

“In addition, Labelexpo will be the first show where we will begin to roll out product deliverables that reflect the company’s increased commitment to R&D enabling us to develop leading edge technologies that make valuable contributions to the productivity and profitability of our customer’s businesses.”

The N600i press is a 333mm web UV inkjet digital label press based on UV-curable inkjet technology. It prints 600dpi at speeds of between 50 and 75m per minute.

According to Domino, it offers the fast change-over and short run-length options traditionally associated with digital technology, but printing up to 1,500sqm, makes long runs more achievable.

Meanwhile, the K600i operates at double the speed of most comparable digital systems. It can accommodate a variety of print widths, which can be achieved by stitching print heads together across the web, achieving a print width range from 108mm to 780mm.

It prints at a native resolution of 600dpi with three or four selectable drop sizes and line speeds of 50 to 75 metres per minute with UV curable inks.

The K600i can be integrated into an existing press or finishing line or supplied as a standalone roll-to-roll solution.

Domino is supplied locally by Domino Australia. General manager Richard Birch said the press would not be available in Australia until next year.
