Domino to take advantage of surge in digital labels with new kit for Ipex

Domino will launch its first full-colour digital label press at Ipex this year following the recent creation of its new digital printing division.

Visitors to Ipex will get the first viewing of the N600 four-colour digital label press, which can be upgraded to print white for transparent labels.

The press will be able to run substrates with a web width of 333mm at speeds up to 50m per minute at 600dpi.

It will initially be available with UV inks, though Domino also said there is an option for aqueous inks.

UK-based Domino commissioned an independent survey of the label market prior to developing the N600 (pictured).

The survey, carried out by CIR in December 2009, found that 12.5% of new label machines are digital and that the sector is growing at 20% per annum.

More than 80% of respondents said that variable data is a “must have” and that run lengths are the dictating force for running digital as opposed to a conventional press.

“We feel very confident that the product we are launching will be the next step in digital label printing,” said Domino’s director of Digital Printing Solutions, Philip Easton.

Domino will be exhibiting at Ipex, held in the Birmingham NEC from the 18-25th May, on stand 17-D900.

Steven Kiernan is in London for the Ipex Media Summit.
