E-Bisprint is first print manager to get GASAA’s Truly Green certification

Central Coast-based E-Bisprint is the 20th firm to get the sustainability badge, joining printers Lindsay Yates Group, Total Print Control, Impress Printers and Snap franchises Castlereagh St and Silverwater as the latest recruits.

Paul Freeman, managing director of E-Bisprint, said he would use Truly Green as a stepping-stone to get ISO 14001 in 2011.

“The benefits of Truly Green relate the practising what we preach,” said Freeman.

“Truly Green encompasses all aspects of our business including our national distribution centre, contingency warehouse and head office and administration,” he added.

GASAA executive officer Garry Knespal said: “I congratulate E-Bisprint as a print manager – it just confirms that they are part of our industry that they get printing industry certification.

“They could get any certification. They could go direct to ISO 14001 but they chose to go for a printing industry certification. To me it says they are part of our industry,” he said.

Knespal added that there should be nothing unusual about the fact a print manager without printing equipment would go for the environmental certificate.

“Essentially it is an environmental management system, capable of obtaining ISO 14001, so it doesn’t matter if it is an office or hospital or restaurant or a print shop. The requirements are fairly similar, so in that sense it is not out of the ordinary.”

Knespal pointed out that while the lack of heavy machinery means an office-based business was inherently cleaner, this didn’t necessarily make it easier to pass the audit because the opportunity for improvement was lower.

“It is easier in some sense but the areas of improvement are diminished. If you have a lot of risk, you have a lot of areas to improve.”
