Encyclopaedia of finishing launched at book fair

Extra was launched at the stand of Sappi, which provided the paper, and contains examples of 33 different print finishing technologies, varying from structural varnish, lenticular printing, flock printing, metallic foil lamination, cold foil transfer, stamped holograms, and lasercut.

The idea for the book came from two designers in Germany, who wanted hotfoil for the cover of a book. They found that existing books contained photos of the end-product, but nothing tactile.

Franziska Morlok, one of the designers, said: “We were surprised how difficult it was to source what we needed.”
