Everyone can access B2 Indigo as Courtney Colour sets up trade arm

Courtney Direct is the name for the web-to-print service, which is now accepting pre-registrations ahead of launch on 15 August.

Director Aldo Burcheri told ProPrint that the service would stand apart from existing trade suppliers because it was digital-only.

“A lot of the other trade guys are gang printing on offset, working on high volumes. We are on lower numbers. We print each job individually with no gang printing.”

Burcheri added that one of the downsides of gang printing was that sharing jobs across individual runs could affect colour.

He said Courtney Direct would be branded as “premium digital” and rely on the power of the company’s HP Indigo 10000 as well as its 7500 and 5000.

The service is based on the iWay platform, developed by PageFlex and sold locally by HP agent Currie Group.

Burcheri said software automation efficiencies enabled Courtney to offer competitive trade prices, as well as in-house finishing and the larger sheet size of the Indigo 10000.

Courtney’s finishing suite includes in-house burst binding, stitching, laminating, wiro-binding and folding.

He was also careful to stress that the company’s commercial business would not blur the lines of the trade division.

“We would not step on anyone’s toes. We see them as separate parts of the business and would respect and support any trade client and wouldn’t ever chase their work. It comes down to morals.”

Burcheri said Courtney Direct meant low barriers for smaller printers to access Indigo quality.

“For small printers, it is important that they don’t over-capitalise and can lean on some good trade suppliers.”

It isn’t Courtney’s first endeavour in the web-to-print space. For the past four years, the company has been running Easeprint, an online ordering system targeted at designers.
