Father and son Minuteman franchise win small business award

Phillip Anderson and his son Adam, who once proudly served their country as servicemen, have found success as printers, recently winning the Small Business Award in the Liverpool City Council Australia Day celebrations. Phillip Anderson, retired from the Royal Australian Navy and Adam Anderson, retired from the Australian Army, now run a Minuteman Press franchise in Liverpool, New South Wales. During the 2016 Australia Day celebrations, the Mayor of Liverpool and the Liverpool City Council presented the father and son team with the Small Business Award.

The win has gone under the radar for some time, speaking to Australian Printer Adam Anderson admits he doesn’t like to show off his achievements but feels honoured to receive the award. He says, “We’ve only been open since October 2014 so it just shows the hard work we’ve put in is paying off and we are getting recognised in the area.” The Andersons sought a business opportunity after they both retired from the service and they discovered Minuteman Press through a franchise business expo. Adam Anderson says, “Minuteman Press talked to us, and out of all the businesses at the expo, they seemed the most helpful. They were with us every step and we are pretty happy with the decision to go into printing.” He adds that he tries to stand out from the competition by relating to customers and working out their needs. He says, “We just guide them down the right path, they might think they want something but we can offer them better.” Although the year started off slow for the business, Anderson reports February has been their busiest month since they opened store. Minuteman Press international area manager Chris Jutt says the father and son make a great team. He says, “Adam handles the bulk of the marketing and is very active in local networking clubs, while Phillip also markets the business but also keeps things running smoothly inside the centre. “They follow the plan and, while we are glad that they are now on board with Minuteman Press, we also salute their earlier service to Australia when they were in uniform.”
