Ferrostaal shake-up: Haefeli gone, Wendler named boss, Simpson promoted

Ferrostaal Australasia has promoted Carsten Wendler to the top job after confirming the departure of Markus Haefeli.

Ferrostaal has now revealed that the redundancies Haefeli announced last week included Haefeli himself.

Haefeli was appointed managing director and chief executive in 2007. The company said he steered it "through one of the largest structural changes that the print industry has experienced in recent history". Haefeli told ProPrint he was unable to comment.

Ferrostaal added: "The senior management change allows the company to focus its Australian and New Zealand operation on supplying and servicing printing presses manufactured by Komori, a range of high-end bindery equipment, packaging products from Bobst and the FMCG packaging equipment division."

Wendler joined Ferrostaal in 1996 as a business development manager and was general manager of its packaging division for more than a decade.

He said he would put the Australian and New Zealand business on a "long-term footing".

"It is clear that we continue to have core competence from sales to service in our company in this region on a sustainable level and that forms the basis to be a long-term successful company and a viable partner that supports our client base," he said.

Wendler will continue to act as the country representative for Bobst and other packaging equipment.

Ferrostaal's restructure also includes another promotion for Rayne Simpson, who joined the company in 2009. Simpson was promoted from general manager of print finishing to general manager of print & finishing last year. He has now been appointed general manager of Australia & New Zealand.

Simpson will continue to manage the Komori business and will also handle Ferrostaal’s key bindery suppliers.

Wendler said few people in the industry knew more about print and finishing than Simpson.

"What Rayne achieved for Komori in such a short period of time since he took their product responsibility as general manager of print is second to none," he said.
