Geon and Flying Colours take top spots at Tasmanian PICAs

The Launceston firm finished equal first with Geon at the Tasmanian PICAs after winning seven categories.

Flying Colours managing director Craig Pearce was hopeful one of those wins would finally translate into success at the National Print Awards at which the firm has previously claimed three bronze medals.

The awards night was held at Wrest Point Casino on 13 October. Focal Printing and Print Applied Technology finished equal third with six golds. The other winners were Monotone (two), Harris Print (one) and Examiner Print Centre (one). Seventeen categories had no winners.

Pearce told ProPrint that the 20-staff operation owed its success to “exceptional service” and “modern plant and equipment”.

Flying Colours has Heidelberg four-colour, two-colour and single-colour presses and Heidelberg letterpresses and extended its warehouse from 1,200sqm to 1,500sqm in August, said Pearce.

He said the firm offered print management services for its top clients and needed the extra room to store the increasing amounts of merchandise it was distributing on their behalf.

Flying Colours has clients in all states, including the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Federal Group and White Sands Estate, said Pearce.
