Hike in store for catalogue paper prices

Catalogue paper costs are set to rise after Norske Skog hiked prices in New Zealand by $25 a tonne and flagged a review in Australia.

The Norwegian paper maker says Australian LWC prices will be reviewed over the next few months with an increase likely to come into effect next year.

Sales and marketing vice president Andrew McKean says the need for further rises is driven by higher input costs resulting from the ongoing weakening of the Australian dollar, and a seven per cent hike in Europe in July.

If the hike ends up being similar to NZ it would be a 2-3 per cent rise on top of July’s three per cent hike to LWC, which was driven by a 30 per cent jump in raw material costs.

It also, along with other paper suppliers, increased its LWC prices in January by 3-5 per cent.
