Konica Minolta employer of choice for gender equality

Konica Minolta Australia has been recognised as being an employer of choice for gender equality for the third year running.

The Australian arm of the Japanese-owned technology company today received a 2018-19 Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation in recognition of its ongoing and deeply-held commitment to gender equality in the workplace.

The WGEA is a federal agency and the EOCGE is a public recognition of an organisation’s commitment to gender equality.

“This citation is testament to the culture we have created at Konica Minolta Australia that encourages and promotes gender equality in the workplace. We do this because it is aligned with our core values as a company but also because we understand what it means for employees to work for a company that values gender equality in today’s society,” Dr David Cooke, chairman and managing director, Konica Minolta Australia, says.

Konica Minolta’s director of legal, people and IT Suzie Brett said one of her direct reports first suggested the company move for recognition in this space so winning it for the third time is particularly pleasing.

“This is an independent recognition that the values aren’t just put up on a board or on a coffee cup but they are lived throughout the organisation,” Brett told ProPrint.

“They are embedded in our systems and our processes and we are actively setting targets which we are willing to hold ourselves accountable to.”

The recognition is the latest in a series for Konica Minolta which won the Human Rights Award in the business category in December 2018 for its efforts to promote human rights in his supply chain and end slavery.

Last month it was also named in the top 100 most sustainable global corporations for the second time and was chosen from a field of 7,536 major global companies.

According to WGEA: “Trends among this year’s recipients include entrenching organisation-wide flexible work practices, tailored parental leave policies to support use by women and men, programs to increase women in leadership, initiatives to support women to return to work, and robust analysis and correction of gender pay gaps.”

Libby Lyons, director, WGEA said, “Embracing workplace gender equality means different things for different organisations. Every employer committed to gender equality embarks upon their own unique journey towards achieving the equal participation by women and men in their workplace. The WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation provides a rigorous and sophisticated roadmap to guide employers along the path.

“We have awarded a record 140 EOCGE citations this year. All of our 2018-19 EOCGE citation holders are at different stages of their gender equality journey. What unites them is their determination and commitment to achieving workplace gender equality. I congratulate all of these organisations for being agents of change, leading the way forward for other Australian employers to follow.”
