Lamson Paragon opening Melbourne plant, targeting new customers

Lamson Paragon Group will open a new Melbourne plant to fill a production gap partly caused by its acquisition of Four Trade Only.

The Dandenong facility is scheduled to open in late October and will initially have eight to 10 staff, said shared services manager Rodney Frost.

The trade-only site will produce the full range of Lamson Paragon products, including barcoded documents, labels, paper rolls, tickets, forms, cheques, pads, books and certificates, he told ProPrint.

This will be the group's second Melbourne site – its Cheque-Mates business also has a factory in Springvale.

Frost said the decision to expand had been taken a few weeks ago in response to a gap in the market. That was partly due to the closure of Four Trade Only following its acquisition by Lamson Paragon, he added.

Frost told ProPrint the expansion may help Lamson Paragon win more Victorian clients. "There are a few in particular we haven't been able to deal with in the past because they prefer to buy locally," he said.

"We already have many partners in Victoria and we are hopeful that our decision will generate some loyalty and allow us to pick up extra work to fully utilise the new facility.

"It won't be as big as our Sydney plant but it will have enough capacity to ensure we provide the service levels to our partners that their customers demand of them."

The group also has plants in Perth and the Philippines, said Frost.
