Men arrested over arson at Coffs Harbour sign printer

The arrests are the result of a NSW Police investigation into a series of incidents at Sign It Up Australia last year.

In a statement, NSW Police said the company was first broken into on 24 April 2010, with equipment including printers, laminators and ovens destroyed with a sledgehammer.

"A number of computers were also damaged in the incident and an amount of cash stolen from a safe inside the premises," said police.

The factory was again targeted on 15 July, as the premises and its contents were "completely destroyed" by fire. Subsequent police investigations established that the fire had been deliberately lit.

Police arrested two men last week in relation to the incidents.

A 39-year-old man was arrested last Tuesday (4 January) by Queensland Police at a caravan park in the outer Brisbane suburb of Beenleigh. He appeared before Beenleigh Local Court the next day where a warrant for his arrest in NSW was executed.

Detectives from Coffs Harbour travelled to Queensland the same day where they sought and were granted the man's extradition. He was arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station and charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, dishonestly destroying property for gain and dishonestly destroying property by fire for gain.

On Friday, local police conducted a search warrant at a removal business in Coffs Harbour where they seized documents and other business records.

A 50-year-old man was also arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station, where he was charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, dishonestly destroying property for gain, money laundering, accessory before the fact to dishonestly destroying property by fire for gain, recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm in company and hindering an investigation.
