New GASAA president to take lead in ‘one industry voice’ debate

Leach (pictured), chief executive of Sydney-based wide-format printer Look Print, takes over from Shepson Printing’s Luke Everingham, who will remain on the executive committee.

“In 2010, GASAA will be looking to enhance and improve its member services as well as take a more proactive and leading role in the ‘one industry voice’ debate,” said Leach.

The debate over a more unified approach was brought to the fore following a keynote speech from Heidelberg Australia chief executive Andy Vels Jensen at last year’s National Print Awards.

“Maybe we need to moan more, some may say less. However, the key has to be that we moan in concert so as to be truly heard,” Vels Jensen said.

The claim was later echoed by Senator Kim Carr, the federal minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, at last year’s Printing Industries CEO Forum.

“It would help if you had one association across the industry,” Carr told the audience. “The industry is better served by having one voice.”

Meanwhile, GASAA has also added Mail Marketing Works’ Brian Gibson, Snap Printing’s Mike Palmer and Lindsay Yates & Partners’ Paul Richardson to its executive committee.

The full Executive committee members elected for 2010 are:

– David Leach, Look Print (President)

– Richard Baker, Kwik Kopy

– David D’Astoli, Focus Press

– Luke Everingham, Shepson Printing

– Brian Gibson, Mail Marketing Works

– James Hawkes, ACP Magazines

– Michael Jones, CDM Print

– Russell Montgomery, DDB Sydney

– Mike Palmer, Snap Printing

– Theo Pettaras, Digitalpress

– Paul Richardson, Lindsay Yates & Partners

The association also announced that its Truly Green certification course and logo have been officially registered with Trademark Australia, following a 12-month application process.

GASAA executive officer Garry Knespal said: “The GASAA Truly Green certification certainly does not finish at graduation. We continue to support our graduates 100% by marketing the Truly Green certification and logo throughout marketing, design and print circles. Trademark registration of the Truly Green logo will assist us in proving the credibility and value of the GASAA Truly Green course.”

The trademark registration comes as the association gears up for its first round of Truly Green courses for 2010, with limited spaces still available for the Sydney course commencing on 2 March. Further details are available on the GASAA website.

The association will also be holding a free seminar in Sydney on 2 March entitled ‘Working on Your Business in 2010’. Contact events@gasaa.asn.au.
