New name for PANPA

The Australian is reporting that the organisation will make the change at its annual general meeting next month, as well as plans to align itself more closely with industry body The Newspaper Works and revising its objectives to include a focus on digital revenue streams.

“The proposed name, the Newspaper Publishers Association, is a shortening of PANPA’s full name and I believe it will allow the association to more aggressively pursue the needs of members,” said PANPA president Robert Whitehead in a statement to members.

“The name shortening and updated objectives will allow the association to modernise in response to the changed economic, media and social circumstances most newspaper publishers are trading in.

“Much of the association’s change in activities started over the past 12 months after it became evident, as I advised last year in the president’s report, that the association could no longer rely on its main source of income coming from delegate registrations coming from a large annual conference if it were to remain viable.”
