New PIAA board members bring harmony

The PIAA Board has released the names of the four new Board members which were ‘unanimously’ chosen from a list of twenty candidates. The four new members are Walter Kuhn, director of Kuhn Corp Group representing Queensland, Matt Aitken, CEO of Blue Star Group from New South Wales, Kellie Northwood from IPMG representing Victoria and John Scott, general manager of Scott Print in Western Australia. PIAA acting president Kieran May has welcomed the appointments, “It was initially a difficult process given the significant number of people who expressed interest in joining the Board. “One of our primary considerations was to add skills in areas where we thought it was necessary. The Board was mindful to ensure each region had access to their ‘local’ board member and we were mindful of the need for renewal.

The new appointments appear to have satisfied the Members Action Group (MAG) – which has been in conflict with the PIAA over the past three months – spokesperson Tom Eckersley has praised the ‘outstanding qualities’ possessed by the four new Board members and says they will improve the functioning of the Board. He says, “I think any new input of energy, ideas and experience will bring a reasonably fresh approach to the challenges that are present for the PIAA. “The new appointments will affect activities within the Board and the goals it is trying to achieve and how it is trying to steer the industry.” There was no shortage of people wanting to make a contribution, Kieran May says, “I would like to say thanks to the other members who put up their hand, The Board and I will be looking for ways we can involve them at some level.” The new directors and the existing Board members will serve until the end of this year. A general election is due to take place in September/October. This will open up all Board positions for members to elect their chosen candidates. The Board is expected to formalise the appointments soon, following the completion of necessary paperwork.
