NZ printer to bring homegrown e-book tool to Australia

Norcross Printing Group managing director Henry Norcross starting looking to invest in e-book software a number of years ago but was unable to find any tools on the market that ticked all the boxes.

“They all had different features, some not as good as others. We decided to develop our own with the ‘greatest hits’ from those around the world,” said Norcross.

Norcross set up standalone company Dynamic Digital Publishing (DDP) to look after the product.

He said the real selling point for his tool was that it was developed with print production sensibilities.

“We needed more than to just be able to turn a PDF into a ‘page-flipper’,” he said.

For instance, users can utilise the system to pull together content to create a bespoke product, then request an on-demand printed version. Norcross said this application had already been a winner with universities in New Zealand.

“A student can build the content that he’s interested in. You can select course information and put it on your Facebook or email it to your grandma, or use a button in the program to contact the school and ask them to send you the printed brochure.”

DDP has been selling direct to clients such as universities in New Zealand, but Norcross said he hoped to win over printers on this side of the ditch. “The reason we want to target the Australian market is because there’s no conflict of interest.

“We provide the software tools, the hosting and we are offering printers the ability to licence the product and on-licence it to their clients,” said Norcross.

Costs start at A$75 per client per month for the Lite package.

Norcross Printing Group was established in the 1970s and employs 48 staff across its two sites in Wellington and Waitakere.
