Offset Alpine, Webstar and SOS titles win at Publishers Australia Awards

More than 420 people attended the awards ceremony at Darling Harbour on 12 November, where printers Offset Alpine, Webstar, Geon and SOS Print & Media hosted tables.

There were 27 awards in all, with categories that celebrated the full spectrum of journalism and publishing.

Offset Alpine was the only printer to take home a dedicated award, receiving a gong for ‘Sustainability Program for Publishing’.

It also printed the winner of ‘Consumer Magazine of the Year’, which went to Selector magazine, published by Wine Selectors.

General manager Craig Dunsford said he was “very happy” and that the event was “great for the industry”.

“We are proud to be associated with the winners and receive the award,” he added.

The wins follow Offset Alpine’s sweep at the previous week’s NSW PICA awards.

Webstar, which produces ProPrint, also had a hand in a number of winning entries, including the event’s biggest winner, FourFourTwo.

Soccer magazine FourFourTwo, published by ProPrint‘s publisher, Haymarket Media, took home three gongs, including the top award, ‘Publishers Australia Excellence Award 2010’.

Webstar managing director Warwick Hay said it was “a great industry event”.

“As someone supplying into that industry space, it is great to see our clients being successful. When they are successful, it makes our jobs all worthwhile,” added Hay.

Webstar also produced the winner of ‘B2B Magazine of the Year’, which went to CIO magazine, published by IDG Communications.

‘Cover of the Year’ was awarded to the Law Institute Journal‘s ‘Braille’ cover, produced by Geon Impact.

Managing editor Mick Paskos said Geon’s input was “really good”.

Publishing house Hip Media took home two awards. ‘Special Edition of the Year’ went to the Drinks Yearbook 2009, produced in Singapore by KHL Printing.

Hip Media also won ‘Small Publisher of the Year’, and owner Ashley Pini made special thanks to “go-to supplier” Art & Print Management, based in Belrose, NSW.

Edge Custom Media took home awards for ‘Launch of the Year’ for B21C, printed by Into Print, based in Warriewood, as well as ‘Custom Magazine of the Year’ for OUTthere, printed by SOS Print & Media.

‘Regional Publication of the Year’ was awarded to Adelaide Hills, published by Adelaide Hills Marketing and printed by Lane Print and Post.
