On Demand goes inkjet with Australia’s first Oce ColorStream

The machine, which can churn out more than 1,000 A4 pages per minute, is due to be installed in early October.

On Demand owner Bruce Peddlesden said the decision came after six months of research into inkjet.

“Our publishing services have been outgrowing our current capabilities and inkjet will boost them considerably,” he said.

“At the same time, we have a large variable-data clientele and the ColorStream 3500 will enable us to expand these services into full transactional printing.

“We were also drawn to the system’s flexibility, with its ability to switch between full colour mode and black and white,” said Peddlesden.

The 540mm-wide twin-engine device can produce 1,200dpi resolution at 100 metres per minute, with a duty cycle of up to 12 million pages per month.

It is the latest in a string of major inkjet announcement in Australia and the third colour inkjet device in Melbourne, following the Océ Jetstream 2200 at Salmat’s Victorian operations and the InfoPrint 5000 at Computershare’s Port Melbourne site.
