Optimus turns MIS from back office to proactive sales tool

The UK-based developer will use Drupa 2012 to launch two new modules within its Dash MIS: Sales Generator and Campaign Manager.

Optimus managing director Nicola Bisset said: “The greatest ideas are the simplest; why didn’t we do it before, I ask myself.”

Sales Generator analyses job data to provide reports that can then be used in the sales strategy, such as highlighting best sellers and worst sellers, or indicating which items are the most and least profitable.

According to Optimus: “The analysis can be used dynamically to profile customers by a wide range of criteria, thereby enabling the understanding of buying trends and habits. Once profiled, the results can be used for targeted, incentivised promotions.”

Creating these promotions is done in Campaign Manager, a system to let printers produce the same kind of cross-media marketing that they produce for clients.

“Dash Campaign Manager uses the data available in the Dash Sales Generator to enable the sending of email or printed mail-shot campaigns to those targeted customers and prospective customers identified as sales opportunities.

“Campaigns could be: special offers, new product launches and the targeting of specific products to specific customers,” said Optimus.

Because both the sales and marketing tools are native within the MIS, they don’t bring the costs that can be associated with these kinds of campaigns.

Another new release for Optimus at Drupa will be Cloud Mobile, a version of its MIS for iPads and other tablet devices.

Bisset said: “Rather than come back and fill out job sales cards, it was about giving instant responses. The sales rep can sit in front of the customer with his iPad and give an instant quote, look at stock level and capitalise on instant buying decision. It is also about giving staff more time to make more sales calls.”

She added that the idea came out of conversations with printers in Australia, which is one of Optimus’ biggest markets outside of the UK.

Optimus will celebrate its 30th birthday at Drupa, and will be giving away five Apple iPads at the show.
