Printing Industries Association of Australia's 'Trends' report showed industry outcomes were below expectation for the 16th consecutive quarter. Selling prices fell for the 44th consecutive quarter. Other negatives included reduced employment, increased material and wage cost pressures and an increased number of outstanding debtors. But there was also good news: increased orders and production and increased sales and net profits. The survey received 110 responses. More: Past report

Canon and Océ have announced a roadshow to demonstrate their first co-developed printing system. The vendors called the Océ VarioPrint DP Line "a series of compelling black and white systems based on breakthrough technology". Joint launch events will be held around Australia during March. The VarioPrint range comprises three models, offering speeds of 110, 120 and 135 pages per minute. More: Drupa partnership

Magazines and newspapers have been shedding readers, according to the latest data. Magazine figures have shown dramatic falls. Roy Morgan data for 2011 indicated a 4.1% decline in magazine readers and 2.9% in newspaper readers compared with 2010. Data from the Audit Bureau of Circulations showed a 4% fall in newspapers and a 7.8% fall in magazine for the three months to 31 December. Seven West Media's magazine publishing business, Pacific Magazines, has reported half-yearly earnings of $22.3 million on revenues of $150 million. The company described it as "a positive performance in a challenging market". Pacific Magazines said one of its priorities was to develop its digital capabilities and footprint. ACP Magazines' sale speculation has intensified. The mainstream press has been reporting that rival Pacific is interested in purchasing at least some titles, though there are questions marks over competition issues. More: ACP in trouble

APN News and Media announced on Wednesday that non-executive director Pierce Cody had resigned, effective immediately. He served in that position for 10 years. More: Financial results
