PacPrint13: DES

DES specialises in supplying solutions to the printing, packaging and signage markets. It supplies consumables and digital technology to markets such as solvent printing, UV flatbed and roll-to-roll printing, textile printing, and sign and display.

The company represents Epson, EFI Vutek, MacTac, Chromajet, Chromapop and Chromaflex. It is also a leading Australian supplier of colour management solutions from EFI and CGS into the signage, proofing, photographic and fine art markets.

“Our goal is to assist clients to develop new revenue streams through the use of emerging technologies and innovative consumables,” says national sales director Russell Cavenagh.

PacPrint13 will also mark the first official outing of DES since it acquired finishing equipment reseller Graffica. Veteran finishing vendor Neil Southerington has now joined DES, and will continue to sell the SBL range of diecutting equipment.

But the big focus for Southerington and DES at PacPrint will be the latest developments for the short-run box market. Advances in technology have seen the rise of digital print directly onto corrugated stock, rather than requiring litho printed panel applied to corrugated cartons.

The main focus here is the Autobox machine, a tool-less, touchscreen device that is so simple that even unskilled users can set up knife creases to create short-run boxes. The machine can be made ready in 90 seconds and construct boxes for anything from fridges to computers, spare parts, fruit and vegetables and wine. Depending on the box and its size, production speeds vary between 200 and 1,000 units per hour.

DES will be showing live production of custom boxes, with stock printed on a wide-format machine then put through the Autobox live on the DES stand. “We expect to show the Autobox making various box styles with high-res print panels. As far as I know this is a first, certainly for Australasia,” says Southerington.
