PacPrint13: Kodak

Kodak’s Nexpress digital production press will take pride of place on the vendor’s stand. Kodak is sitting across the hall from partner Konica Minolta, which sells and services the Nexpress machines. The Kodak stand will feature a Nexpress SX2700 running the latest version of digital front end software.

The unit will demonstrate the full range of print capabilities in its standard configuration. One standout feature of the Nexpress is its Fifth Imaging Unit, which allows a range of applications, such as pearlescent and neon pink. These are being added to the portfolio and should be available in the back end of 2013 and early 2014. Other applications of the Fifth Imaging Unit include watermarking, protection coating, MICR printing, gamut expansion and red fluorescing ink for security applications.

The Nexpress boasts a modular design that makes it completely field upgradeable. The new long-sheet option expands both application flexibility and efficiency. Its 26-inch (660mm) sheet allows users to print six-page brochures or three-up letters. A larger format also means more impositions per page, maximising output and reducing waste. Press productivity with 26-inch sheets increases by around 10%, boosting overall output.

Kodak says the beauty of Nexpress is that you can start with a lower-spec model such as the SX2700, with a duty cycle of 3.1 million pages per month, and upgrade all the way to the SX3900, capable of 4.4 million pages per month. With machines from competing suppliers, you have to buy a new press when your business grows beyond the capacity of the machinery.

All this will be complemented by demonstrations of Kodak’s latest Prinergy workflow offerings for commercial, packaging and publishing segments. There will be a preview of Kodak Prinergy 6, which is due for release during the second half of this year.
