PacPrint13: Tharstern Australia

Visitors to Tharstern’s stand will be able to clap their eyes on Estimate PRO, its new-generation intelligent print estimating tool. Tharstern is also banking on a lot of interest from PRIMO Live, a native iPad application with estimating and CRM. The ability to produce estimates live on-site using an iPad should be an attractive proposition.

Launched in November, Estimate PRO is initially being aimed at printers with litho, digital and large-format kit, as well as companies that offer fulfilment and other non-traditional services. But Tharstern has plans to extend it to other users. The back-end is set up in a way that lends itself to flat-sheet, commercial litho and digital, and wide-format printers. Tharstern also has plans to extend it to roll-label and multi-web in the future.

Using the software’s ‘Product Configurator’, estimators run through a user-defined checklist of options for a chosen product, typically inputting information such as materials, pages, quantities and sizes. The system then works out the most efficient equipment and imposition for that product. Estimate PRO is an enhanced version of Estimate Classic. Tharstern has removed the margin of error and significantly reduced the skills required to put an estimate together, although PRO doesn’t supersede Classic.

PRIMO Live with estimating and CRM interacts with the TharsternSQL MIS database, generating instant estimates, production-perfect jobs and sales and prospecting data. It streamlines the time to generate estimates. Speed of quoting should be a major focus for printers – Tharstern says that the first estimates returned to a customer or prospect are more likely to be accepted.

The tool will also be built into Tharstern’s online procurement portal, e4print PRO. This allows customers to automatically create and submit jobs to a controlled workflow.

PacPrint will be the first Australian show to demonstrate Estimate PRO since it was first shown at Drupa.
