‘Paper engineer’ partners with Lindsay Yates to reveal value-add secrets

Printers can use highly inventive paper creations to get their feet in customers' doors, said the organiser of a papermaking workshop.

Paper and Pixel owner Jean Kropper is conducting workshops for print marketing and creative staff at the premises of Sydney firm Lindsay Yates Group.

"I have some unusual skills from my hand bookbinding and papermaking days that most digital-based designers and print people don’t have. Some of the hand skills are useful for creating work that isn’t like everyone else’s," she told ProPrint.

"If you are running a print shop, marketing department or design studio, you are always looking for new ways to start conversations with clients and potential clients as part of drumming up work. Unusual ideas and inventive promotion are great door-openers."

Kropper said the workshops would also inspire and educate staff. "It gets them off their computers and lets staff know you value them in your team," she said.

"It is easier to retain staff when they are happy and engaged. There are many skills in art, design and business that are useful to creatives, and to your business as a whole."

The next workshops are on 4 December and 19 February.
