Paragon creditors list still unsettled

Canberra print businesses owed money by the now closed Paragon are yet to receive any outstanding payments and have not been given the full creditors list.

Paragon Printers went into administration last week after it was alleged the business owed upwards of $3m in debt.

A number of companies have already been reported as unsecured creditors, including paper merchants KW Doggett for $420,000, Spicers $315,000, BJ Ball $300,000, and Direct Paper $190,000.

ProPrint also spoke to several smaller Canberra-based printers, including Impress Print and Elect Printing, both of whom are owed undisclosed sums from Paragon.

Elect Printing direct Darren Muir says Paragon owes his business money and is concerned for how the loss will affect him and other printers around ACT.

“We did have a very good relationships with Paragon, but they do owe us money, not materials but actual wages,” says Muir.

“We have not yet received the creditors list. I know a large amount of printers in Canberra worked with Paragon and are they owed too.”

The list of creditors is likely include many small sized ACT print businesses, as both Impress and Elect say Paragon passed on many small-run jobs to other printers willing to accept the work.

Impress Print owner Terry Ward also says his company was forced to ‘pull work’ from Paragon after it collapsed into administration.

Another printer who wishes to remain anonymous confirmed it had done work for Paragon in the past, and says ‘small printers who are owed money are not going to get paid. We won’t see a cent’.

Impress and Elect both also attribute a lack of government work to Paragon’s failure, citing it makes up approximately 70 per cent of large-run print jobs in Canberra. The printers say companies such as Paragon that only chased big jobs were hit hard when the work dried up.

Administrator for Paragon Henry Kazar was unavailable for comment.
