Partners Canon and Manroland talk up inkjet possibilities

Canon Australia marketing manager Damian Schaller said: “Here in Australia, since 1 January, we’ve become Canon Professional Print. We’re under the one roof and Canon is the name you’re going to hear.”

Océ is still a working brand for some products, such as the Arizona and Procut machines.

The flatbed Arizona 480GT UV printer is a focal point of the PacPrint stand, and is being demonstrated with the Procut digital cutting table.

Schaller said that in cutsheet, the ImagePress C7010 and the formerly Océ VarioPrint DirectPress (DP) line, both with Prisma Sync controller, are drawing attention from stand visitors interested in digital workflows rather than standalone output devices.

The third vendor involved in this triumvirate of integration is Manroland, which is showing how its finishing line integrates with Océ inkjet technology for digitally printed newspapers. Visitors can check out how far the technology has come by making side-by-side comparisons of Fairfax compact newspapers: one printed web offset and the other on an Océ Jetstream.

Manroland Australasia managing director Steve Dunwell, who is based on the Canon stand, said: “I’ve never seen better quality [in digital] than the new inks Océ has introduced. The densities of the inks are just superb. You won’t see better quality on that from any newspaper. The newspaper people are very interested. We’ve had some here at the show and there’s more coming.”

Dunwell wouldn’t reveal names, but the PacPrint Daily did glimpse some heavy-hitters from one of the biggest regional newspaper groups gathered on Canon’s stand.
