Pemara sells business to global outfit

Pemara Labels has been sold to global flexibles outfit Constantia for an undisclosed sum, with the deal expected to go through in the next few months.

Melbourne-based Pemara produces self-adhesive labels from plants around the region, and is also a leader in digital label print solutions.

Labelmakers Pemara achieved approximately $45m in sales last financial year, and employs more than 300 staff in Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, and Jakarta.

The company was founded by Peter Macnamara in 1966 and has since gone on to become one of Australia’s most successful label printing businesses, and one of the few Australian print businesses that has expanded successfully overseas.

Pemara group managing director Andrew McNamara says the company is positive about the acquisition and have found a strong global partner with Constantia.

“Pemara is delighted to be joining Constantia Flexibles, and believe we have found a great match with [their] labels division,” he says.

McNamara also says Pemara staff will carry on with the business following the acquisition.

“We are particularly pleased that the staff and management are continuing with the business to become part of this global packaging group.”

Head of Constantia Flexibles Labels division Mike Henry says the acquisition will allow Constantia to expand its regional footprint and support multinational customers.

“With its leading technology and more than 20 years experience in Asia, Pemara is a great addition to Constantia Flexibles,” he says.

Pemara is Constantia’s second acquisition this year following purchasing of South African company Afripack. Constantia is headquartered in Austria.
