Perth printer replaces three machines with KBA Rapida 106

The KBA Rapida 106 with inline double coater – the first of its kind in Australia – has replaced a six-colour Manroland Roland 500 with coater, an A1 Roland 702 press and an offline UV coating machine at the Perth-based company.

Percival director David LeRoy told ProPrint: “We are currently working with a small number of design houses, who are now designing work specifically for the machine. The results are very encouraging.”

He added that Percival’s employees were becoming ever-more proficient with the machine. “We’re still learning how intricate we can go with the spot UV.”

LeRoy (pictured right with co-owner Rod Jenkins) said the coating capability was a “bonus” that was adding value to its client base “at little extra cost”.

Percival said the Rapida, which has been producing commercial print and packaging jobs since it was installed in March, “provides a fast, efficient and cost-effective solution for many of our clients and will equip Percival for the future”.

According to KBA, the 18,000sph machine’s automation modules include DriveTronic SIS no-sidelay infeed, coating plate change and CIPLink software.

“The press package also includes KBA DensiTronic online colour measurement and control,” according to KBA.

The second KBA Rapida 106 in Australia was recently installed at Platypus Graphics in Brisbane.
