Pettaras Press earns PSD digital print compliance

Pettaras Press in Sydney has been awarded PSD (Process Standard Digital) compliance under the supervision of ColourProcess, a further endorsement of the company’s 2008 achievement of FOGRA PSO certification.

It has been awarded the additional PSD compliance for the quality of its HP Indigo 5000 digital print output. The award recognises the company’s consistent quality and accuracy in printing to FOGRA PSO certified standards using its digital press.

The achievement of PSD compliance complements the company’s offset PSO certification for its stable of Komori offset presses, and fulfils managing director Steve Pettaras’s commitment to quality in all of his company’s print products. The compliance process was conducted by Yves Roussange of ColourProcess.

“I’m very proud of our print team here for being able to achieve this compliance,” Steve Pettaras told ProPrint. “We achieved PSO FOGRA certification in November last year for our offset presses, and now we have gone this extra step our clients will know that they are getting the best quality every time from Pettaras Press. The achievement of this extra award reflects the consistency in effort from all our staff here. They are the ones who have made all this possible.

“We used Yves to achieve this digital compliance because he’s just so diligent. Just like we strive to push the limits in our work, we could see Yves’ passion to achieve the best. He was adamant that we had to achieve 100 per cent spot-on matches.”

Yves Roussange commented that Pettaras Press had little trouble achieving PSD compliance due to the company’s approach to its production processes and the fact that they already had experience with FOGRA PSO implementation.

“Steve suggested to me that he wished to have ISO12467-2 and ISO12647-7 compliance for his digital side of the business to match FOGRA PSO standard across all printing technology, and I worked on a process to make this happen. PSD is a concept to implement compliance for digital machines and to enable them to monitor and calibrate to the ISO12647 printing standard. The results from the HP Indigo are perfectly on target,” said Roussange.

“Having the PSD compliance for the digital side and FOGRA PSO certification for the offset side now it’s so comforting to know that we have a standard implemented within the company. ISO certified proofs provide us with a perfect colour match to any digital or offset print result and reduce clients’ presence for press check, because my staff are so good at monitoring them and making sure the consistency is there and the standards are maintained to keep them within the threshhold of the accreditation,” said Steve Pettaras. “So now any piece of print that leaves here, digital or offset, is matching ISO12647 printing standard.”
