Updated: PICAs celebration in Melbourne and Adelaide postponed

The Printing Industry Creativity Awards (PICAs) are being held nationally and in-person this year, but there has been a change of date for the Melbourne and Adelaide events.

The Melbourne event will now be held on August 6, instead of the planned July 9, while the Adelaide event will be held on August 19 instead of on July 2. This will make Adelaide the last city to celebrate the PICAs.

The Victorian celebrations will still be held at the Marriott Hotel Docklands and the SA celebrations is still expected to take place at the National Wine Centre of Australia.

Print & Visual Communications Association president Walter Kuhn told Sprinter that the reason for the change of dates is due to COVID restrictions.

“The COVID situation is very fluid at the moment. We’re notifying members of the date changes if and when they happen. If a venue or situation becomes unavailable due to COVID restrictions requirements, we will have to move the date,” he said.

Kuhn added that the date change in Melbourne is due to the unavailability of the Marriott Hotel Docklands on July 9.

“The reason for the change of date is that the venue will not be available on that date due to delays in renovations because of recent lock downs,” he said.

Sydney is still scheduled to celebrate the NSW Awards at Ovolo, Woolloomooloo on 16 July as COVID restrictions for the state are expected to lift on 9 July.

The Queensland industry will gather at the Tattersalls Club in Brisbane on 23 July, and Perth on 31 July, where the WA awards will be presented at Crown.

Kuhn also previously mentioned that the celebrations mark the industry’s long-awaited get together after what has been one of the most challenging periods in the history of the industry.

“The evenings will be a real celebration of the ability of print service providers to survive, thrive and adapt in the face of adversity – and, through it all, not only to maintain the outstanding levels of quality for which our local industry is renowned but, according to our judges, to push standards even higher,” he mentioned.

Registrations for all five events are now open and further detail on the awards, including how to nominate industry leaders and outstanding businesses for recognition at the National Print Awards – to be held during PacPrint 2021 in Melbourne on 30 September – can be found here.
