PMP selling Chullora presses

PMP has auctioned a thousand surplus items from its closed Chullora plant – and now wants to sell the web presses.

A spokesperson told ProPrint: "The Chullora presses are on the market and expressions of interest are being called for."

The print giant closed the Directories site in June and shifted the White Pages and Yellow Pages printing to Moorebank.

PMP revealed in its 2012-13 results that the move cost $18.1 million – $12.5 million in closure costs and $5.6 million in onerous lease costs.

The Chullora auction ran from 5-11 September. It is unclear how much it raised; PMP and the auctioneers, Grays Online, declined to comment. However, the online catalogue showed $149,000 worth of bids just before bidding closed yesterday afternoon.

No significant pieces of printing machinery were auctioned. A Polar Mohr guillotine sold for its reserve price of $10,500. No bids were received for a waste paper bailing system listed at $30,000.

PMP offloaded platemaking machinery such as automated plate processors, stacking systems and pre-bake ovens. The company also sold ink-related equipment such as pneumatic piston pumps, storage tanks and wash tanks.

Other print-related items included manual bundling machines and guillotine cutting blades.

The auction catalogue largely consisted of non-print items, including warehouse machinery, electrical equipment and office furniture.
