Print giants PMP, IPMG, Blue Star, Geon and Stream unite behind APIA campaign

Directors from the five companies met at PMP’s Chatswood, Sydney HQ last month to discuss strategy for the ‘Paper – part of every day’ initiative.

The combined front of industry leaders follows support from associations GAMAA, GASAA and PIAA. ProPrint has been told that both Salmat and AP3, the Australian Plantation Products and Paper Industry Council, may also come on board in the near future.

Bernard Cassell, chairman of APIA and chief executive of CPI Group, told ProPrint the support of such heavy hitters would give the campaign “a fantastic amount of reach”.

“You look at the skills base in a PMP or an IPMG and you can see how we can do things we couldn’t do previously,” said Cassell (pictured).

“For the first time, we will end up with a really strong voice for the industry. We have paper people, we have machinery people, we have printers,” he added.

The steering committee’s initial focus included fundraising initiatives and marketing strategies, such as how to include ‘print’ in the branding, though there are no firm plans to change the name in the near future.

Stream Solutions general manager Andrew Price said: “It is a campaign we fully support and think is imperative to get the real message out there about the paper and printing industry.

“It’s about time we did something to defend ourselves from all the misinformation that was out there,” he added.

The recently celebrated a big win when a government department – one of the country’s biggest users of print – agreed to withdraw anti-paper communications, such as advising that electronic delivery was a greener option.
