Print manager wins $7m casino contract

PMA Solutions has won a $7 million casino contract thanks in part to its innovative print management portal.

The Sydney-based print manager revealed that it started supplying Echo Entertainment Group in May. The three-year deal was valued at about $2.3 million annually, and involves the supply of "all print material, ranging from restaurant menus to business forms to marketing material", said PMA national sales manager Aaron Spooner.

Echo operates four hotel and casino complexes: The Star in Sydney, Treasury Casino & Hotel in Brisbane, Jupiters Hotel & Casino on the Gold Coast and Jupiters Townsville.

Spooner said PMA offered Echo "the best of both worlds". Echo can use the new iSSD print portal to liaise directly with printers for simpler jobs – and it can also rely on PMA for traditional print management services, he told ProPrint.

"We believe this system will deliver a great balance to clients, enabling them to manage their own requirements where they can, and providing them with the expertise when they require it. The cost strategy then reflects this, and this means significant savings for the client," said Spooner.

"But the acceptance of PMA's proposal was not purely based on price. Other major considerations in the analysis included experience, inventory management systems, supplier management, geographical coverage, distribution ability, product range and 'ease of doing business with'."

Spooner said the iSSD portal would help PMA's accredited printers benefit from the Echo contract.

"The system’s automatic selection of the most suitable suppliers provides them with an impartial opportunity to pitch for work that is appropriate to their capabilities."

Spooner told ProPrint that iSSD was helping PMA differentiate itself from its competitors.

"It does give us another offering alongside our traditional offering, the pure print management that we've had for the past 25 years," he said.

"It gives us a new, different thing to pitch, because the market is about getting the best rate possible. This system gives the client the ability to do that."
