PrintEx recruits heavy-hitters: Procter, Rennell, Heckenberg

PrintEx has appointed three big names to its board as it looks to create "an event that the industry wants and supports".

Suppliers association GAMAA has appointed Konica Minolta's general manager of production printing, David Procter, Currie Group's sales & marketing director, Phillip Rennell, and Epson's business unit manager, Craig Heckenberg.

The PrintEx15 board will also include equal representation from the Printing Industries Association of Australia.

Procter said he had nominated for a board position because he "felt it was time to stand up and contribute to the industry".

"I have been a strong supporter of both PrintEx and PacPrint and I personally believe there is a place for these kinds of exhibitions in Australia," he told ProPrint.

"From a Konica Minolta perspective, these shows have been integral in our continued growth over the last 10 years and I support any initiatives that continue the sharing of information in a very quickly changing market.

"Konica Minolta is the largest exhibitor at Ipex in London next year, and I look forward to sharing the experiences we learn."

Rennell said he wanted to be involved with PrintEx because it was a very important time for the industry, in particular trade shows and industry events.

"I believe it’s critical to deliver an event that the industry wants and supports. Support from all areas of the industry will make it successful for exhibitors, customer attendees and industry participants alike," he told ProPrint.

Rennell said the key to making PrintEx relevant would be to listen to advice, study previous shows, and look at the trends for recent and upcoming worldwide and regional events.

"It is important that the industry gets the event that meets its needs, and this might mean developing ideas with exhibitors and the industry," he said.

PrintEx will be held at the Sydney Showground at Sydney Olympic Park, the same venue that hosted Visual Impact in September.

GAMAA president Adrian Fleming said the board was keen to start planning for the show, with the first meeting scheduled for December.

"While 2015 seems a long way off, there is considerable pre-planning that goes into mounting an exhibition like PrintEx," said Fleming.

"The GAMAA board members give freely of their time and share their expertise to ensure the show meets the needs of exhibitors and visitors alike.

"We are conscious of the shifting landscape for trade shows and the board will be looking at trends both here and internationally to inform their decisions."

Heckenberg was busy with meetings and could not be reached for comment.
