Around 40 people from the Brisbane print community were on hand to watch as the final touches were put on a psychedelic vehicle graphic for the 1971 XY V8 Fairmont at Colorcorp in the Brisbane suburb of Stafford.

Guests were also given a tour of the business, thought to be the biggest screen and large-format printer in the state. Its equipment battery includes a range of dye sublimation and flatbed inkjet kit, as well as a five-colour Thieme line, which Colorcorp general manager Brad Wruck called the “Rolls Royce” of screen presses.

The vehicle wrap, which took around 16 hours to complete, was inspired by major sponsor Fuji Xerox Australia, which used the ‘Printers Dream’ theme for the launch of the Color 1000 digital press last year.

Other sponsors were Salt Design, Daroji Print Finishing, BJ Ball Paper, DES, Kayell, GMG, Colorcorp, Platypus Graphics, G2 Solutions, Graph-Pak – and ProPrint.

The driving of ‘Bash Car 135′ will be shared by Platypus Graphics managing director Tom Lusch, Michael Rowe from government printer Go Print and G2 Solutions’ Bernie Hockings.  The race runs for 10 days, starting on 18 August and raises money for Variety, the Children’s Charity.

Hockings said the event was not just a chance to raise money for a good cause, but also another sign that the LIA is alive and well in the Sunshine State.

“The LIA has been a sleeping giant in the Queensland printing industry. The world has changed dramatically in recent times – people are coming and going – and we don’t want to lose contact with people across the industry.”

He urged guests to sign up to the association. “It is not an expensive association to join.”

Hockings will be providing updates on the team’s progress via Twitter as ‘bashcar135’.
