Quality Press GM retires after 40 years

After 40 years in the printing industry Graeme Young, the general manager at Perth’s Quality Press is retiring.

Young started out as an 18-year-old at the beginnings of offset and has worked for a variety of printing companies in Wellington in New Zealand, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney before taking up supervisory roles in Perth.

He has been the general manager at Perth’s Quality Press for the last 22 years and says the key thing he’s learnt is that change is a good thing and investment in research and new technologies is the only way forward.

“By staying up-to-date, we managed to reduce labour costs, cut waste and importantly improve the profit which in turn let us repeat the cycle. I suggest you never stop investing in the correct technology to improve your profit,” he says.

“I suggest you never stop investing in the correct technology to improve your profit.”

Young says he has also enjoyed interviewing and employing great people over the years, including over 128 apprentices.

“Great employees are not always the bold and brash: the quiet and shy are equally as valuable. Race, colour, creed have no bearing on finding highly reliable and productive employees.”

After raising a family, renovating and playing on the stock market this All Blacks fan is ready for some well-deserved time out, overseas travel and himself getting back into sport.

“There are a few more still to visit to enjoy and experience their cultures,” says Young.

“The Government says I am too young to retire so this leaves plenty of time to spend on the joys of life, travel and looking at other investment opportunities. I thank all those that have assisted myself over these enjoyable years and wish you and the printing industry another 40 years of challenges and change, lucky you….”

Young has thanked all at Quality Press and the company’s suppliers for all their great work over the years.
