Screen sponsors Galley Club awards

Dainippon Screen Australia said its decision to become a sponsor “clearly demonstrates Screen’s intentions in the digital book production market”.

Schulz (pictured) observed that digital vendors such as Screen are having a “profound impact” on the book publishing industry.

“Books that are out-of-print can resurface because now it is economical to print just a few. Unknown authors can find markets and success for the same reason. Booksellers can order copies based on daily sales reality and almost eliminate returns and the wasteful practice of re-pulping unsold copies,” Schulz said.

“Companies such as Screen are bringing new opportunities into publishing and all of us in the business should watch carefully.”

Screen Australia managing director Akira Hayakawa said the company was “honoured” to be sponsoring the awards.

“Book production is very important in our global strategy with the Truepress Jet 520,” he said.

“There will be an increasing number of entries printed digitally as this technology penetrates the market further,” he added.

The 2010 Galley Club Awards take place in Sydney in July, with further details of the event to be made available in the coming months.

Last year’s event saw ProPrint designer Sam Grimmer win the Australian Book of the Year award for his work on Fairfax and Roberts catalogue Jewellery.
