Shergill buys sixth printer in two years

Mark Shergill’s opportunistic buying spree continues as he picks up Sydney commercial printer Rainbow Printing, and rents the old Focus Press Strathfield site.

Shergill says he bought the Wetherill Park business when its owners put it up for sale late last year, seeing it as a good opportunity to expand his client base.

The Focus Print Group managing director says five of Rainbow’s 10 staff will move to his company. They include director Desiree Meoushy who will continue to service Rainbow clients.

Shergill says the presses were sold off but he retained some of the finishing equipment, and that may go into the recently leased section of the former Focus Press Strathfield South plant next door to his Sydney headquarters.

He says the site is currently just used for storage but he is considering using it as his NSW finishing house.

Shergill says he will look at further acquisitions to grow his business ‘when they come up’ but the focus this year is to consolidate the group and gain new clients by any means.

The rapid growth of Shergill’s empire through six acquisitions in less than two years has led to questions about how it will identify itself.

It is currently known as Focus Print Group, but he says it may revert to BPA Print Group, a Melbourne company he bought in 2013.

“Once we make that decision in the next two months we can operate as one company, which make it easier to market ourselves, gain new clients and grow the business,” he says.

Rainbow Printing produced end-to-end general commercial work such as business cards, calendars, catalogues, stationery, newsletters, brochures, and flyers, plus wide format posters, banners, and signs, as well as design and warehousing services.

Rainbow Printing is not to be confused with Rydalmere NSW businesses Rainbow Colour Printing and Rainbow Industries, which are still operational and independently owned.
