Spot hosts Qld printers

Spot Productions in Brisbane, Queensland, hosted printers and clients as it gave a demonstration of its newest install, a 10-colour RMGT 9 series offset press.

The event was organised by the Queensland branch of the Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA), with some 50 printers attending from around the state.

The press was supplied by Cyber, with managing director Bernard Cheong attending the event, along with Queensland sales director Peter Eskine.

National LIA head Mel Ireland gave a speech, along with Simon Carmody, managing director, Spot and Bernard Cheong.

The highlight for attendees was seeing the press in action, with makeready completed in mere minutes between print runs, and Cheong picking up fresh prints and rubbing them against his white shirt to demonstrate how the LED-UV tech ensure they are perfectly dry.

Spot’s print production covers multiple factories within the industrial site, with the company having grown considerably since being founded circa 2007. It now has capabilities across digital, offset, and prepress.

Carmody says the 10-colour press has already led to two presses being retired from the site, with a third potentially being removed.

“It was a decision we took our time to make, and this is not something I say when buying equipment, but it has exceeded all our expectations.

“Makeready is complete in minutes and it is allowing us to get all our work done with less overtime.”

RMGT says the A1 sized press can offer 8-up printing at a much lower cost than a B1 press.
