TRMC and FIA secure new postage relief for Charity Mail

The Real Media Collective, together with Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA), has secured new postage relief for Charity Mail following negotiations with Australia Post.

The relief will assist during the COVID-19 recovery period, effective 1 October through to 31 December 2020, providing charities with a postage rebate of 10 per cent on any incremental Charity Mail activity undertaken during that period as compared to the same period in 2019.

The rebate applies to the incremental Charity Mail volume achieved through this period compared to the same period in 2019, adjusted for:

  • any Charity Mail volume shortfall that occurs in the following quarter i.e., 1 January to 31 March 2021 compared to 2020 and,
  • any applicable credit claims in those periods.

TRMC CEO Kellie Northwood said charities need this support now more than ever and thanked Australia Post for working with industry to achieve this relief.

“Our members include printers and mail-houses across Australia. Working with Fundraising Institute Australia and Australia Post to develop relaxations for charities provides solid volumes for our members and the broader industry, as well as support to charities who use direct mail for donor acquisition campaigns,” she said.

FIA CEO Katherine Raskob said as charities continue to navigate the difficult COVID-19 period, further support is needed to assist them to continue doing their work.

“FIA works tirelessly to support our members, and the broader sector. These initiatives help all charities, and, in these challenging times, we want to ensure the Australian sector receives as much help as possible to fund their critical missions,” Raskob said.

“This rebate will benefit charities of all sizes with their fundraising efforts and will be of huge benefit at a very challenging time. We are delighted to have negotiated this kind of rebate – a great example of how working with industry, Australia Post and charities can deliver meaningful results.”

This isn’t the first time that FIA and TRMC have secured postage relief – together, the organisations secured Charity Mail relaxations in May for charities and industry.

The temporary relief came into effect on 25 May and provided charities with a 10 per cent postage rebate on any incremental Charity Mail activity undertaken in May and June this year, compared to May and June 2019. It also included PO Box application fee assistance to speed up the return of donations.
